..........Los Angeles, California.

Well, our next stop was Los Angeles. This fine city boasts 4 million people. There is a reason most of the "stars" drink or take drugs - it's the place where they live. I promise a rant post on this alone coming in the near future. Anyway, we traveled down US Hwy 101 to California Hwy 1 to enter into Los Angeles via Malibu. We made a brief stop at a California Travel Information Office in Ventura. The staff there was three of the most unorganized women I have ever met in my life. We left confused and without a good map. My whole purpose was to get a good city map before we went into what I knew was a hard town to drive in. I had the most map success with my McNally/Rand Atlas map that we bought at Wal Mart. Anyway, we just used our instincts and Santa Monica Blvd. as our base road to navigate from. We went down Santa Monica (I thought Santa Monica Blvd had to have significance - you know, from the Sheryl Crow song). It worked! We found Rodeo Drive and all the "hot" shops - no, we didn't get out and look. Our next stop was the residential section of Beverly Hills - all I can say is; "more money than sense". We drove up Mulholland Drive. Our major purpose was to find the "Hollywood" sign up in the hills overlooking the city. We finally stumbled across it and tood a few pictures of the sign standing tall in the smog. After our drive through town, we headed for Anahiem; where we were to stay for the night. We entered the LA freeway system at 5:00 PM on a Friday! Yes, it was a crowded nightmare; but, the traffic moved no slower than that in Charlotte. Today we are going to Disneyland. Our hotel is a short walk to the parks and we have our tickets. I'll let you know how it goes.

The famed "Hollywood" sign as seen from Mulholland Drive.

Need some jewelry? You can get it here on Rodeo Drive.

Entering the Beverly Hills residential section.

Here's the coastline at Malibu Beach.

.........another shot of Malibu.

............some of the "lower level" housing on Malibu Beach.

Do you watch E!? Well, if so; you know about Sunset Tan.

Yeah, I would rather live almost anywhere compared to LA. I plan a short rant post on just LA. The odd thing about all those places we have so often seen on TV, etc., is that they don't look nearly as good in real time. Oh, one thing I did forget to post - Santa Monica Blvd is the final leg of the traditional Route 66. In fact, were we are staying tonight (7/7/07) is also on the old Route 66. Route 66 doesn't exist as a traditional road anymore. It has been broken-up into several other roads; some of which are interstates.
